Frequently asked questions

Here are the questions families ask us most often, with clear and honest answers to support you through this care process.

About admission to the Center

For admission, the adult must be enrolled in an EPS (Colombian health insurance provider), be registered with a medical emergency service, and have a responsible representative or guardian.

An ID document and any available medical information are also required, so we can carry out a proper assessment and ensure safe care.

Yes. These requirements are essential to ensure comprehensive, timely and responsible care in any health situation.

We generally request:

  • The adult's ID document.

  • Available medical information (diagnoses, treatments, medications).

  • Contact details of the guardian or legal representative.

Our team supports the family throughout this process and answers any questions during admission.

Yes. We understand that many families are still going through the diagnostic process. In these cases, we carry out a comprehensive assessment to determine whether the Center is the right place and how we can best support the adult and their family.

Who we care for

We care for adults with neurodegenerative diseases, dementias (such as Alzheimer's and others), cognitive disorders and neurological after-effects, offering comprehensive, specialized care.

Each case is assessed individually. We look at the adult's physical, cognitive and emotional condition to determine whether the Center can provide the right support.

Yes. Our team is prepared to support adults with behavioral changes associated with mental or neurological conditions, always with a humane, clinical and respectful approach.

Yes. We work with different types of dementia and neurological conditions, adapting care to each person's specific needs.

Care and daily life

Care is comprehensive and personalized. It includes ongoing support, healthcare, emotional support, structured routines, therapeutic activities and an environment designed to provide safety, well-being and dignity.

We have an interdisciplinary team of health professionals, nursing, physical therapy, nutrition and psychosocial staff who work together for the benefit of each resident.

Depending on each person's needs, we offer cognitive stimulation, emotional support, functional support, physical activities and therapies aimed at preserving abilities and quality of life.

Our care model is based on respect, listening and humane treatment. Each adult is recognized as a person with their own history, emotions and relationships, and care adapts to their pace and needs.

Visits, outings and family bonds

Yes. Residents can receive visitors on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sundays are reserved for spending time outside the facilities, as long as the resident's medical condition allows it.
If a Monday is a public holiday, visits take place on Wednesday at the same time.

Not on their own. Outings take place accompanied by family members or guardians. The Center also organizes walks and supervised activities with the nursing team, depending on each resident's condition.

The family is a fundamental part of the process. They accompany, participate, stay informed and maintain an active bond with their loved one and with the Center's team.

We maintain constant communication with families through meetings, reports and established contact channels, to share progress and observations and to support the process closely.

Family responsibilities

The family must provide personal hygiene supplies and prescribed medications. The Center's team gives clear guidance on what is needed in each case.

External medical treatments are coordinated with the family and the treating professionals, ensuring continuity, follow-up and safe medication administration.

Emotional support and decision-making

From the very first contact, we support families by listening, guiding and providing clarity. We know it's a difficult decision, and we're here to answer questions and offer peace of mind.

Yes, it's completely normal. Many families go through this process with mixed emotions. At Centro Reloj de Arena, we understand that reality and support you without judgment, with respect and empathy.

Through constant communication, emotional support and guidance sessions, we help families go through this stage with greater calm and confidence.
